Route Guidance Across Unknown Streets

Walking a route for the first time, alone.

A familiar route is memorised. An unfamiliar one is the real test of independence. Phoenix Eye combines map data with what the cameras see: the crossing is twenty metres ahead, the signal is red, the kerb drops here, the pavement narrows around scaffolding that no map knows about. Testers walked new routes of one to two kilometres, and every wrong turn we recorded went into how the guidance is phrased.
